Answer: Sony handycam lenses are great. They are generally a plastic lens that are quite resistant to scratching. Sony also does business with Carl Zeiss. Now, although this is a licensing agreement only Carl Zeiss does not actually build the lens but they do licence the specifications. My experience with Sony / Zeiss lenses havs been excellent. Look for the T* (that's t-star) on the higher end Sony cameras. These lenses are the cream of the crop. Canon and Panasonic also produce good lenses. I have a Carl Zeiss lens right now and I compare it to the Canon, the Zeiss lens is superior in every way, lighting, clarity...you name it. Good Luck
